FAQ

Is it really free?

Yes. No price, no account, no ads and no store. Coming soon for every platform.

Do I need the original game?

Yes. The remaster contains none of the original’s data: no city, no voices, no textures. It reads them from a disc image of your own copy every time it runs. Without one it opens a test scene in free roam.

Which version of the game does it need?

The North American release, SCUS-97133, as an .iso file. Its disc already carries English, French, German, Italian and Spanish speech. Other regions’ discs are not supported yet.

How do I make a disc image?

Dump your own disc with a PC drive and a tool such as ImgBurn on Windows or dd on Linux, or with a PS2 homebrew dumper. We do not link to copies of the game, and cannot help you find one.

Can I use the HD texture pack?

Yes. The community’s AI-upscaled pack for PCSX2 imports as a mod in one command. See the Mods page.

Does it change the game?

Not its content. The missions, the city, the cut-scenes and the sound are the original’s. The controls, the camera, the car handling, the graphics and the conveniences are new, and where a change affects how the game plays there is a setting to put it back. You can even switch to the PS2’s own lighting.

Why is it not open source?

The engine’s source is not public. The builds are free, the mod API is documented, and the mods that come with the game are plain folders you can read and change.

What hardware does it need?

On a PC, a GPU with a Vulkan 1.2 driver. Phones and tablets need a Vulkan 1.1 GPU on Android, or a recent iPhone. Every effect can be turned down; the heaviest, like ray tracing, are only used when your GPU supports them.

Does it support gamepads?

Yes, alongside keyboard and mouse, both fully remappable. Android and iOS have on-screen touch controls.

Can I play online?

Yes, in free roam. Host a game from the menu or run a dedicated server, and join with the multiplayer mod. The story missions are single player.

Is it affiliated with Sony or Team Soho?

No. It is a fan project, made out of love for the game.
