Steam Deck

One file puts the Second Coat launcher and the games in your Steam library, with their artwork. You run it once, in Desktop Mode; after that you play in Gaming Mode, with the controller.

Download the installer Install-Second-Coat.desktop · open it in Desktop Mode

Install

  1. Switch to Desktop Mode

Press the STEAM button, then choose Power › Switch to Desktop.

  2. Download the installer

Open this page, secondcoat.dev/steam-deck, in the browser and press Download the installer. If the file in your Downloads ends in .download, take that off, so the name ends in .desktop.

  3. Run it

Open your Downloads in the file manager and double-click Install-Second-Coat.desktop. Choose Execute (or Continue) when it asks. A window shows what it does: it downloads the launcher and adds Second Coat to Steam, which closes for a moment and opens again. It needs no password.

  4. Back to Gaming Mode

Double-click Return to Gaming Mode on the desktop. Second Coat and Second Coat: London are in your library, under Non-Steam.

  5. Choose your disc image

Open Second Coat and install Second Coat: London. Then press the ⋯ button next to Play and choose Choose disc image…. Do this in the launcher: the game's own Choose the disc image does not open a file browser in Gaming Mode yet.

In Gaming Mode

The launcher

Second Coat opens the launcher, full screen. The D-pad or the left stick moves around, A presses and B goes back. Install the game there; it keeps the game and itself up to date.

The games

Second Coat: London starts the game straight away once it is installed, after a quick check for updates. When you quit the game, you are back in Steam.

Your disc image

The game plays from a disc image of your own copy. Put the .iso in Emulation/roms/ps2 (EmuDeck's folder, also on the SD card) or in Downloads and the launcher finds it; else choose it in the game's menu in the launcher.

What it does

Only your home folder

The installer runs install.sh: it downloads the latest launcher from files.secondcoat.dev to ~/SecondCoat, checks its SHA-256 and adds it to Steam. It changes nothing of SteamOS, so an update of SteamOS keeps it.

Any Linux PC

The installer works on any Linux PC with Steam. The launcher's Settings › Steam adds it to Steam too.

Removing it

Remove the two games from your Steam library, and delete the SecondCoat folder in your home folder, with the games in it.
